If you have ever had to find that one email with that important piece of information, and couldn’t find it, this tip is for you. It applies especially if you have had multiple emails back and forth on the same topic. Sometimes the best tips are the simplest. Here it is:
CHANGE YOUR SUBJECT LINE WITH EACH NEW EMAIL
Now, instead of opening every email from a certain person, you locate the key word(s) right in the subject header. Since each new email has a new piece of
information, add one or two new words in the subject line when you hit the reply key that answers something earlier. Now instead of taking time to open all emails with the heading Smith File, you can scan down the subject lines to find the one that says, Smith File Work Verification New Telephone. Think of it as adding subfolders to the original folder.
By always writing a new subject line in your emails and never just replying with the same subject line as when you received it, you will be able find your emails much faster and easier no matter where they are filed on your computer. And your readers will appreciate how quickly they can grab that one email that they need, too. |
